Watagan Park is part of the Lake Macquarie Local Government Area, located within the community of Cooranbong, 50 minutes north of Sydney.
With the Watagan Mountains looking down at you from the west and Lake Macquarie waiting for you in the east, Watagan Park really is in the heart of a natural playground.
The Watagan Mountains are home to many picnic spots, lookouts, camping areas, walking trails and for the more adventurous there’s abseiling for all abilities and 4WD tracks.
Lake Macquarie is Australia’s largest coastal salt-water lake and is twice the size of Sydney Harbour. It’s home to an array of water activities for all families including kayaking, water-skiing, paddle boarding, sailing and the lake has long been alluring anglers with the promise of a bountiful catch.
Watagan Park is only a 30-minute drive from the historic Catherine Hill Bay Beach where the Surf Life Saving Club runs Nippers every Sunday morning. Tucked in the Munmorah State Conservation Area is Frazer Park, a local surf-break surrounded by nature.
Education is important at any age, and Watagan Park has your family covered for every milestone. Avondale School (which caters for K-12 along with the Avondale Early Learning Centre for 3-5 year olds), Cooranbong Valley Community pre-school, Little Miracles pre-school, Cooranbong Public School, St John Vianney Primary School, Heritage College (K-12), Morisset High School and Avondale College (tertiary), are all just moments away.
Only 7 minutes to the M1 and 8 minutes to Morisset train station, getting where you want to go is easy from Watagan Park. You can arrive at Central Station in less than two hours or via the freeway in 50 minutes. The Gosford turnoff is only 25 minutes away, and if you’re heading north, you’ll be at the Newcastle exit in 22 minutes.
Convenient shopping is a must and Watagan Park is close to a range of supermarkets, delis and retail outlets. The area is also known for its local growers – so you can pick up delicious seasonal fruit and vegetables practically at your doorstep.
Avondale Village is only a 2-minute drive away and has all the necessities including a post office, café, grocery and general store, chemist and takeaway shop.
The town centre of Morisset is just an 8-minute drive away – within the shopping centre, and on the main street, you’ll have access to a wide variety of shops including Coles, Woolworths, banks, cafés, video stores, restaurants, hairdressers, dry cleaners and takeaway shops.
Slightly further away, The Bay Shopping Centre located in the heart of Bonnells Bay is a great place to stop off and grab a coffee or do some shopping. It is host to Coles supermarket, a range of specialty shops and the famous Bay Hotel Motel.
